About this place
At Ebisu Bar, the signature lemon sour uses frozen Ikuchijima lemons in place of ice. The suggested way to drink it is to enjoy the first glass as it is, then muddle the lemon from the second glass onwards—a simple change that gives the drink a different flavour as you go. There are several versions to choose from: a dry sour with no added sweetness, a gently sweet one with a honey aroma, and a refreshing standard version. Each is listed at 700 yen per glass. The menu also features a special lemon sour made with spirit infused with spices. Starting with the standard version and finding a favourite to pair with your meal is part of the fun.
The natural match is the restaurant’s signature simmered meat tofu. The Omi beef version costs 800 yen per serving, or 900 yen with a simmered egg; the restaurant describes it as a dish simmered until bubbling. Potato salad topped with a simmered egg is another featured plate. Some diners recommend the meat tofu, making it an appealing place to start before adding drinks and small plates. For a selection of smaller bites, consider the oden assortment: 3 pieces for 580 yen or 5 pieces for 880 yen. Items such as daikon, egg and fish cake can also be ordered individually. One diner also singled out the assorted oden as a recommended dish, making it a useful choice when you’re unsure what to order.
There are shochu highballs for those who want to explore the spirit, too. One diner noted the wide range of shochu, including both barley and sweet-potato styles, and the menu lists highballs by label. With small plates and drinks to choose from, this is an izakaya where deciding what to sip is part of the evening. Counter and table seating make it an option for couples as well as groups. Ebisu Bar is in Komeyacho, Kyoto, and dinner is listed daily from 17:00 to 23:00.
